Axis Wakeboard Boat Forum

So took first trip to havasu. About 6-8 hrs drive. Never pushed it over 65. Got here pull the cover off and bam. Scratches along the top rail corner. I used the tent poles that came with the cover and was winched down tight on the straps. Anybody have suggestions on preventing this.

Towing that distance, I would be inclined to either remove the cover for the pull or place painters tape or paper with tape in the area of concern.

I have never had a problem. I tow 3 hrs somethings.

Use some bulk shrinkwrap like from U-Haul or where ever and wrap the top rail 2-3 times before putting the cover on. You can also wrap the tower and racks to prevent bugs. I never tow with a cover as I don't see a reason why. Years ago on my first wake boat I did tow it 3hrs and got the same micro-fine rub marks on the top rail of the boat. Used a buffer and some Finesse-It and all gone.

6-8 hours I feel is a little long to tow with a cover. If you see the cover slapping in the wind behind the boat you are probably going to end up with marks. Even if you just see it moving a little.

I use the boat to store my boards on. But I've also heard of people losing cushions at hey speeds. Haven't gotten to Velcro the bottom of seats yet. I did buy painters tape and that worked really well. Just have to see difference in price between tape and shrink wrap. Found out you even gotta tuck the zippers from ratchet covers the hard way too.

I have a wakeboard bag to put boards in then put them in the bed of the truck. The potential for gel coat damage is too high in my opinion to tow with the cover on. I've seen windshields get shattered towing but I still won't do it.

I store my boards in the boat (all in bags) and never have had one blow out let alone move around much. I do tow with the divider in so they are not exposed to much wind.

I will use the divider to keep the wind out of the boat. I also pull the rear seat cushion on Malibu boats because that one would tend to fly out but the axis rear seat is solid.

I try and keep all the boards in the truck also. I don't like to risk $900 surfboards in the boat at all.

I've seen people get boards ripped off racks a few times and have had customer call to buy new racks because of towing with boards in the racks.

Better safe than sorry.

Well the bed if full of luggage, cooler, kid toys and infant play seat. On normal trip to lake in San Diego i just run no cover and everything fits in truck. But weekend trips, gotta pack everything the boss wants.
