Don't use the wedge on goofy side, use it on regular side. I've never had an issue with a washy wave on my previous A22 but the goofy side was a bit cleaner than regular which is the norm for Malibu and Axis. Also, the 900 or 1100 PnP rear sack is much better than the 750. My buddy had 1100's in his A22 and the wave was much better than my A22 with 750's

What about when sg is involved? Wedge or no wedge? I feel like the portside requires the wedge with sg. I get no push if it isn't down.

You just answered your own question. Surfgate is a total different animal than a listed Axis. Everyone I know with an Axis or Malibu equipped with surfgate uses the wedge but I've ridden without it on my A24. Fortunately I ride goofy so that's definitely the better side of the Axis surf wave.
