I live out in East Texas and loving the weather, still have a couple more weeks of riding. I was thinking about getting a wet suit and was hoping for some ideas? Styles? Brands? Etc....

Please take my word on this...DON'T get a cheap wetsuit with flatlock seams. You want a quality suit with seams that are taped and sealed. Flatlock seams allows water to rush in, also known as "flushing". That means you'll get all that cold lake water and then it takes time for your body to warm it up. Plus with so much cold water being able to rush through the "cheap" seams, your body won't warm it up fast enough to actually keep you totally comfortable. A quality suit (yes, it's going to cost more) with taped and sealed seams will not let water to rush in. These suits make the water to have to slowly absorb through the suit to get to your skin. In the meantime your body is warming up the suit from the inside out so by the time the water (very little of it actually) gets to your skin, it's warm. Also a zipper is the weakest part of the suit as far as water leaking in, so get a suit with a good zipper or better yet get a chest zip suit. A cheap suit is what it is. Sure you'll think it's "okay" until you just spend the money up front for a quality suit that will last you years and years. Look into Xcel Infiniti, Xcel Drylock, Rip Curl E-Bomb, Oneil Psycho series, Quicksilver Ignite or Cypher series, and Hyperflex Amp and Flow series. Hyperflex is by far the best inexpensive sealed and taped suit IMO. I live in Texas as well and the water has not gotten lower than 53 degrees. You can do a good 3/2mm suit in that. Don't bother with a 4/3mm suit, it's not flexible enough and you'll burn up in it. A good spring suit and a fullsuit is all you'll need or you can skip the spring suit and go fullsuit if you want. I have a Hyperflex Amp long sleeve spring suit and a drysuit I got a great deal on. If it wasn't for the great deal I wouldn't have gotten the drysuit...plus I rarely use it.

I will warn you. The first time you ride in cold water your feet will probably start to numb but don't worry. After a couple minutes or after you get up, the neoprene that your boots are lined with will warm up your feet and you'll be fine.

I have done a 3/2 suit when the water was 38 and the air was 36.... It was horrible! I now trunk it to 55 and run a dry suit below that! The drysuit is very comfortable to ride in! I have an oneill boost!
