Hey yo. Wife and are are about to pull the trigger on a new T23 salt water series. The one we test drove was awesome but we went out to a local lake and of course it was flat calm and a great day. So where we live at the mouth of the river where she meets the ocean and it can whip up pretty good. 2-3+ft chop.

Im just a little worries how shes going to handle. We have always been a boston whaler family. . But now trying to get some more water sports in our lives, I dont want to end up regretting this purchase because she cant handle some chop and wishing we just had of taken out or Whaler for the day.

Input on this model or other model suggestions is greatly appreciated

It's an inboard boat with an almost flat bottom with not much "V" to the v-bottom. It's going to be rough in 2'-3' chop. It will beat you in 3ft chop. The tower will take a beating as well. These boats are designed for fairly calm conditions with reasonable chop. 3ft chop is not reasonable in my opinion for its use. I personally have no issue or worries about taking mine out in up to 2ft chop for a little bit to get to the calm water but it's usually only 2 miles of rough open water in 20-30mph winds. The best rough water inboard will be Supreme and Centurion in a few different models.

I agree it's not gonna be good in that much chop. Like AJ said these things are wake boats and are not designed for rough conditions. Where I live here in Tn we have a river and lake to run. The river is smooth and I run it 95%. The lake is alway choppy 1 to 2 ft probably on average summer day. I went 2 times last year in the 23 LSV I was using at the time and I felt like the boat was coming apart and the G4 tower rattled all day. Wake Boats love smooth water they like to make the waves. But the T23 is a great boat we love our 16' it is big and does handle chop better than any boat I've had or ridden and that's been many as I'm on my 5th in 4 years.

I have a 15 t22 that I have taken down river a few times. And it got me there. It's definitely not the most fun you'll have in 2-3's but it's safe and as long as you know how to navigate through rougher waters. Like everyone stated above these are not great ocean boats but the trade off is worth it because they are phenomenal wake boats. Best bet is to demo the boat where you would actually be using it. I am in agreement that in those conditions you probably would not be happy in any type of wakeboat. I also have a 2016 T23 and it rides very smooth compared to my older A22. That being said it is also on a local lake here in TN. A really rough day is 1 foot chop in windy conditions. If my local lake was rolling 2 to 3 foot chop all day I would stay at home.

Honestly I am impressed how well my a24 does in rough water. Ideal? No but much better then what I would have expected.

I have a 2015 T23. Last year whenever Texas was getting all of the flooding (much like this year), there was one lake that was open in Dallas. Being that the boat was still brand new, I couldn't avoid going to the lake so we went on a crowded, windy day. I was never more concerned about sinking my boat. I was legitimately worried about it. A lot of the nerves were probably because that was the first time I had been through that much chop and I would say it was 2' chop or so. She handled okay but I had to drive carefully. It CAN handle it but it can be a chore depending which direction you want to go in relation to the wind/swell. Like some of these guys have mentioned, as far as wake boats go, these are very solid and can handle large chop compared to LOTS of other boats I've been in. I typically have a crew of 10ish people and will weight it down substantially. If you have just your family and don't weight it down as much, you will be in a much better position.

Thanks for the input. the dealer is going to bring it out to see. Most of the days will be going out it will be calm but I would hate to get caught in some bad weather.

The A24 is a beast and does awesome in medium chop. 15-20mph winds in open lakes (as in 2-3 miles of open, exposed water) where white caps can build I'm comfortable. Just fill the front and center ballast about 3/4 full to force the "v" part of the hull to cut the chop and I can still go 30mph to get more on top of the chop instead of just plowing it. I had an A22 so the comparison between the two is night and day. I don't see how the A20 guys do it (I understand garage length or lake restrictions) if there's a choice between the A20 or T23 and A24. Bigger is better in the case of rough water ride.
