Im new to the forum I just bought a 2011 axis a22, the boat has the factory mtx audio stuff or I assume they are factory anyway my mtx TE 404 amp is blown.

I recently bought 6 new polk audio mm651um 6.5" speakers.
2 8" inch rockford fosgate tower speakers
and 1 12" rockford P2 sub

my question is what amp setup should I run for this I'm trying to do the amp part on somewhat of a budget I'd prefer to spend under $450 bucks I don't know if this is doable or not? I was thinking about running a 6 channel for the boat speakers and tower speakers then a mono amp for the sub or would it be better to run 3 amps? Any input is much appreciated as i know little to nothing about stereo stuff.

3 amps is best if you think you EVER might change something out or upgrade in the future. 2 amps is doable though if you have reasonable expectations and set it up correctly. I'd typically run cabins and sub on one amp and towers on another.

Personally I'm real partial to JL XD amps because they are small, sound good, aren't THAT expensive and seem to take a lot of abuse.

For $150 more (so $750 total) you could get an xd 400/4 for your cabins and an xd 600/1 for your sub (overkill for your current sub but would give you room to go bigger in the future).

I appreciate the response, the shop Im having it all installed at has told me to go with mb quart for the money. his plan was to run the 540W 6 channel amp for the in boat speakers and tower speakers then like a 600w mono for the sub.

Would you say id be better off running a 700w 5 channel for the in boat speakers and the sub, then maybe a 600w or 800w 2 channel amp separately for the two 8" tower speakers?

I'm also a huge fan of JL products. I've had 3 JL amps and in-boats in my previous A22. I love the warmer sound of the JL cabin speakers vs the Wet Sounds (I'm still satisfied with the Wet Sounds though).

I have the same boat and the same MTX speaker package, I also purchased the polks (before they discontinued them) I checked the wiring last weekend and the factory has them wired all kinds of strange. It seems the back 4 speakers are wired together (assuming in series) the front two in the the bow are on their own channel and the 4 tower speakers are wired together as well (series or parallel) I plan on running a kicker L7 12" under my helm like my last boat and that will get a stand alone 1200 amp. I would rather not rewire the boat so im trying to plan what to do with my amps right now. to this point i think the best way to go is to have the tower speakers on their own amp and re wire the back 4 speaks to separate channels and have them on their own amp. (check out kicker they now have a 8 channel marine amp) this amp will underpower the polks a little but its hard finding a 100 rms per channel amp that will work. Keep us updated how you do yours.

i have had GREAT luck with the Precision power class D amps. I used the ppi900.4 to power my tower speakers on my old boat for 3 years and never had a problem with shutting down or overheating. I would look into these amps, extremely inexpensive and great power.

I have exactly your suggested setup . 700/5 for cabins and sub and 400/4 running my towers. JL in the cabin and wetsounds icon on the tower. It is a really nice setup. I use the stock 2014 head unit and have the fader run between the tower and the cabin speakers. This makes it easy to control the tower level from the helm.

The refurb sounds like a great idea to keep cost down.
