What kind of seal do you have? One drip every 10 seconds is OK - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBDKDy9NO9g.

It is the same kind of seal that Walter replaced with the new dripless seal. It is a steady drip. Definitely more than one every 10 seconds.

I just watched that video Dave. THANK YOU...that is exactly what I needed. Now I just have to find where to buy those wrenches.

Wrenches - http://www.bakesonline.com/SearchResult ... rds=wrench. If you search their site for packing they also sell that. If the boat has a lot of hours it may need to be replaced. Skidim is also a pretty good place to order from - packing - http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=GFO1/4X24. You can get 12% off at Skidim with their "HAPPY THANKSGIVING" coupon code.

Another how to - http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/stuffing_box&page=1

Thanks Dave. You are awesome. My boat only has 261 hours. Do you think it needs new packing? It looks like it could be hard to do in the cramped space. If I ordered the new packing from Skidim do you know the ID and OD's they are asking for? If not I probably needed to buy a caliper anyway.

You need a short 1" 7/8 wrench. Some cut down a regular wrench or get one of these:

How much do dealers charge to replace the shaft seal? Mine is now leaking. I tried to tighten the coupling but it only slowed the leake a little.
I have an appointment on Wednesday at dealer.
