Ballast doesn't count in that weight limit on placard.

Not sure if mcmiller is joking (either way its sort of funny), but your question seems like an honest one. The more ballast and weight you have, the lower the boat will sit in the water, and the greater the risk of swamping or possibly sinking. Take you time and get comfortable driving your boat over the rollers before loading it down. Keep this in mind if you let anyone else drive for your set too! Axis puts a snap on bow cover on their factory test boats for safety and those drivers are probably more experienced and sober than most of us.

It is funny .. U r right! I guess it was actually an a24 in hindsight tho I could swear he said t24. There are quite a few deals on dual 400lbs-ers and wondering if anyone has had luck with only 400lbs in the 22" boat? I'm guessing that 750s are probably what I need since the ring popular on these posts

We run stock tanks full and the 950 bow sack full. Put another 400 to 600 lbs on top of the bow cushions with half the bag over the chillax seats. The lockers we run the ronix 800lbs bags. Depending on reg or goofy wave I will dump a little out of the opposite side sack. Not really enough to list it but enough to clean the face of the wave. Now the controversial part. We run the wedge. It makes the wave much taller and gives it more push on out boat. We surf around 11 mph but have fast surf boards. If your on a slower board or skim board I would run around 10.4

I'm partially joking, but we are all way over weight if it does count, just make sure anyone who drives knows what to do when driving slow and a large wave comes from another boat.

Mcmiller - well, hell I must ask - what do you do in that situation?

I'm assuming hit wave perpendicularly. But this is our first boat and we've only the summers experience.

I would either have the wave hit the side or stearn, if you take a direct hit to to the bow it could submerge and swamp, if the boat starts to swamp the bow reverse out of it.

You definitely don't want to hit them straight on. If you have to cross a bigger wave, I go in at around 45 degrees and take it easy on the throttle.

For my own wake I always stop and let the waves go by. As I come off plan I do a hard right and the boat gets pushed around a bit by the wave to make it easier to turn.

Ha ... Yea must husband likes to do that and hit me just right to drench the kids :-) it makes sense that would be a pretty bad idea with all that weight in the bow. :-)
