Hi All,

I've been lurking here for a bit. I've not been regularly on a lake boat for almost 20 years and that was a Bayliner outboard.

My family took the plunge and we'e got a 2015 T22 that we are taking delivery of.

What specific things do I need to check/look for? We are getting a much needed ride around lesson as well.

Help/Comments/Essentials?

Thanks!

NW

Check the entire gel coat to ensure it was cleaned and polished correctly. Ensure to due a functional check of all the switches. Check your build sheet to ensure it is delivered with everything you ordered. Make sure they fill it up with fuel for you. Are you getting the plug and play fat sacs installed by the dealer?

I got the PNP rear sacks but did not have them hooked up. I figured it wouldn't be that hard and it would make me learn how things worked better.

I am guessing we will see a thread about that soon. Lol.

Not all T22's have the issue...even the ones with the ports towards the rear. Hard to believe I know but it's not ALL of them draining. Just like not all ballast needs vent lines in Axis boats. Never had to vent either of my Axis.

What Dezul said about the gelcoat. Axis/Malibu seems to be famous for not buffing the bottom of the boats. I know mine and a couple others on here came that way. Full fuel tank is a must!

I would make sure the dealer shows you how to use all the features of your new boat, that you don't already know how to use. A lot of times they will know tricks and tips to make it easier to use them. If this is your first inboard then I would definitely have them teach you about the traits of one. Reversing, docking and loading on a trailer can be terrifying for inboard newcomers. ;) It's not hard, just different than most other boats.

Read your manuals and learn the helm inside and out. It makes it much easier to drive and tow a rider while still paying attention to where your going.

Most important is Enjoy and Have Fun!!!

Walk around your boat and feel the gel coat everywhere. If it's rough or cloudy anywhere, have them cut and polish it. Check all LED lighting to make sure they are neatly installed and no cut or damaged grommets, check all seats and vinyl for solid stitching and no misaligned seat cushions (I had this issue in my bow but was fixed), check all switches for functionality as already mentioned, make sure your surfgate is already enabled or you'll have to enable it through your gauges which is a little tricky if you are not s troubleshooter kind of guy, remove dealership decal (they aren't paying you to advertise after you spent $65K-ish or more depending on options), check BOTH drain plugs are in before you hit the water, and learn that inboards like to reverse to the right but they are capable of reversing left if you know how to do it. Learn the technique of "walking the prop" to spin your boat 360 around tight spaces. Be patient, this is not an outboard and should not be treated as one (I've had a couple many years ago). Keep in mind that you WILL get yourself in an uncomfortable position with your boat in tight quarters, just be prepared.

make sure they show you how to use the reverse on your trailer ... my T plug for reverse on the trailer was in a plastic bag in another bag that wasn't gone through by the dealer and myself; fought like hell using a bolt head and duct tape to get mine to go into reverse lol.

Congrats! We also ordered a 15 T22 and this will be our first boat as well. I've grown up on inboards though so not a stretch for us but definitely almost overwhelming at the same time.

Where are you located? Any pictures/info on your build? Hope you guys enjoy it.
