Was on boat trader.com today while passing some time.. Did a 500 mile search distance and came up with about three dozen new Axis boats. All in California, Idaho, and Nevada. Every T23 and A24 I saw all had the 350 engine. This was with the exception of an A24 Vandal and an A24 Liquid Force, which both had the 450. Question.. I know we've talked about this several times, that with the right prop, the 350 and 409 don't have much difference.. It just seems that a 23 or 24 foot boat would need a minimum of 400 hp especially when ballasted up and people on board. Is there a reason other than cost that the dealers are ordering these bigger, heavier boats with the 350 motor? Maybe the 2015 gearing is better on the smaller boats?

I picked up my T23 this weekend and it has the 350 in it. On Saturday, I had 9 guys out on the water, all of us are 22-24 so we're not small. I had the sub-floor ballast full plus rear 550s and a bow bag that is around 350. With the wedge down, it took a solid 20 seconds to get on plane with a wakeboarder riding around 23-24, and I needed at least 2 in the bow. With surfing and surfgate, the 350 was plenty. Unless you plan on running more than ~1000 pounds more than what I ran, I don't see any need for the bigger engine unless you are at a higher elevation, I'm at sea level.

Which prop are you using? And, I hope you have pics of the wake for us!

I rode my T23 with the 450hp engine and 2313 prop on it yesterday. With 4 people, and around 5300lbs in ballast. It got up on plane in seconds. I would actually consider going with a leas aggressive prop given the difference the gear ratio makes on torque!

That's a lot of pulling power with an aggressive prop and the upgraded engine. That 450 is a whole different animal than the base motor I would assume. Did you note your rpms? I still think the 2313 is the way to go on the '15 A22 and T23 for people that run a lot of weight with the base motor.

You ask why dealers order with the 350? Simple...cost and that's all 90-95% of Axis owners need with the new gear ratio. Most people surf nowadays and only use up to about 3150lbs of ballast. There are a few of us that will use 5000lbs or more in ballast. The 350 is plenty motor for 2015 Axis boats to include A24 and the T23. If you want or "need" the 410 or 450 then usually the person is patient enough to order that boat.

Yep, the engine upgrades are pricey, but wow is this 450 a beast. I have had the 450 in my last 3 boats and can't imagine having anything smaller anymore!

I'd love one but that upgrade to 450 was an eye opener. Got my 410 for just over $2K upgrade. I imagine it puts a smile on your face (not that our boats don't already)

I had the 410 on a 22' MXZ and was very impressed with that engine as well. I know people say it isn't much of a step up from the 350 but I felt that it was a significant step up when I had it. I was running the 2315 prop and it would push a lot of weight.

Sorry for the delay, but here is a picture of the surf wave. I didn't manage to take any good pictures of the wakeboard wake, but I will try to do so this weekend if it's not raining all weekend. I believe I have the 2419 Acme prop, I meant to double check. But I remember asking about the torque prop and my dealer saying that I really shouldn't need it for my application and that he's swap it out for free if I needed it. So far, so good and I don't see myself needing it.
