I have an F150 2015 3.5 Ecoboost and generally only move my boat a couple miles unless I have a problem and it needs to go to the dealer about 280 miles away. In the past I borrowed a Ram 2500 diesel when I had to move it long distance which is only once every other year.

I've never seen anyone towing similar boats using a weight distribution hitch but technically, I guess we should if we have a F150, chevy 1500 etc.

Just curious what you all use or think?

I've got the same truck and you're right, technically over 5k pounds you need a WDH but like you I've never used one or seen one used on a similar boat. I did add airbags to my rear axle as I was getting some bouncing while towing. It calmed it down some but does firm up the ride when in use.

I have never used one. I tow with a 2015 Toyota Tundra which is also just a half-ton truck. The trailer towed like crap with my 2" drop hitch which is what I've been using for every other boat. I threw a level on the trailer and it was angled way too far forward. I ended up buying another 2" drop but flipping it upside down so it has a 3/4" rise. Tows perfect now, no more bouncing or sway. So if you're experiencing bounce or excessive sway you should check the level of your trailer (tongue weight).

I am going to try flipping my drop hitch to better handle. I get more sway than I did with my old single axle and a lighter nautique 210.

The question is why do you need one? I assume the receiver is only rated to 5k without weight distribution? If so and you are worried about it just buy a new receiver and be done.

I have a '14 f150 ecoboost. I towed my A22 with it using an adjustable drop hitch. Never had a problem or felt unsafe. We tow 10 to 100 miles one way. With the new lsv I installed air bags to level everything out and stop the porpoising. It works great and the hydraulic brakes are much smoother.
