I too just went to an unused switch on the dash, I like separation of power.

I have the diablo plug light and in the crystal clear water of the Colorado river, it works well. I tied it to an unused accessory switch. But them we killed the light this winter by the kids leaving it ON while out of the water. The heat is so much that it fried it. In fairness, they warned about this in the instructions. I liked it because I did not have to put any holes in the boat. But now i am thinking I shoudl have used different one lighting that will not die if turned on while on the trailer.

I assure that's sarcasm about the Colorado water. I've been disappointed with how little light you get from the standard rear lights in Lake Powell. It lights up the wave enough to surf at night, but nothing extra. I assume there's more output in clearer water. Overall it was fun to try once, but not something we'll be making a habit of. Especially given the fact that it's illegal. Although it was far easier to see a fallen surfer than I expected, especially with a spot and the headlights.

We use the light as a "Pool light" for swimming behind a stationary and it also prevents people from running into the back of us while underway. We do not try to use it as lighting for surfing at night.

And it makes our wake look really cool when we drive to and from restaurants at night.

Depending on which game warden is out, I've been stopped before. Illegal in every state to run with it on at night. However, I agree it's a very nice effect
