I believe it's an axis/malibu trailer and not a boatmate. It's a 2016 A20 and I think the dealer got ahold of it in October and I bought it in March or April. It really sucks that everyone is saying it's normal to have some rust. My 2004 Sanger V210 trailer (which was a VM trailer) had no rust anywhere except where the spring leafs rub against eachother and even then it was very slight like rust-colored dust. The rest of the trailer had not a spot on it. Maybe it's normal if you leave your trailer outside all year but mine's parked in a heated, ventilated garage. It's rusty in parts that haven't been wet since I've owned it (all around the swing tongue for example, which doesn't get dunked when I launch/retrieve). Anyway, I think the spots are excessive and are signs of bad workmanship. It's rusting around welds and bunk mounts and all inside the trailer as well. Hopefully the dealer and/or Axis will step up and fix it somehow (although I don't know how they could possibly sand the inside of the tubes?).
It is not normal for the welds to be rusting. My boat came off the trailer from Tennessee with rust on some welds even staining the gator step directly under the bow roller. My dealer called malibu and they admitted that the painter they had was painting the trailers to thin and it was all covered under warranty to repaint and replace the pad.
