Putting an Acme 2419 prop on my boat this weekend. What are my options for getting the old prop off, other than having a C clamp puller readily at hand?

Personally I would just buy a puller and not worry about it. Most boat shops should stock them.

Have you tried to get it off? Sometime they will just come off without a puller pretty easily.

Get a puller. I've never had any luck getting them to come off without one.

If you had a set of brass punches you might be able to tap it gently to get it free but a c-clamp or harmonic puller will be the best and most safe option. I have the harmonic puller, it works you just can't be scared to hit it with the hammer but I would much rather the c-clamp type.

Yep, what he said ^^^^^ but don't take the nut completely off, loosen it but the leave it on so the prop doesn't hit the ground

You speaking from experience? Good tip though...I wouldn't have thought of that at first, having never changed a prop. I plan to buy a backup at some point but still hope to never have to use it. My dad has his Malibu since it was new in 96 and still has the original prop, talk about luck!

Aaaaah yes...the new guys taking the prop nut off before the prop is loose. I've never had a prop just come off easily as someone mentioned in 28yrs of boat ownership. Ive used c-clamps in the past but now use a Walter prop puller http://www.waltergear.com/propp.htm

Very cool tool. I don't change my prop unless I screw it up, which I haven't done in 10'years. However, I'm going to buy one of these and just change my prop for fun! I've been thinking of trying a new one anyway, I have the 2419 and occasionally struggle a little when we have ballasts/ PNP full and a larger crew on my t22 w/409. Recommendation? We surf primarily but wakeboard a little too.
