@Flyguy, my platform broke in the same location last weekend. Took it to a local shop, looking for a specialty welder. The shop didn't have the necessary supplies to tig weld so they used their regular welder and put it back together. I taped it off and sprayed the weld with some paint to prevent rusting. Cost $10 to weld and a $5 can of paint. Not exactly what I had planned to do, but got me back on the water in minimal time.

Thanks Stuart,

That's my plan also. I'm out of town until Wed., but plan on takeing it to my local shop and having them weld it up. It's stainless steel right with a Tig(sp) weld right. I found a place to buy new ones but I'm in Canada and the whole cross boarder thing bites!! If it's a good weld job I'm thinking I'll dip it but I'm a little worried about the extra plating messing with the clearances.

I'll keep ya posted.

Strange that it gave away there with up force being the cause. I'm wondering if the surfing with ballast while the platform is underwater is causing the failure?? It sounds like there's a few of us now!

Cheers.

Sorry I couldn't get any pics but mine broke in the exact same place as Daves. I had a buddy weld it back together for me and I sprayed painted it. The only thing that I was missing was the clear seal spacer on the backside.

Ok so here's the skinny!

Dealer cost for 1 bracket in Canada is $160+shipping+taxes!

I just came back from the local welding shop and they were able to Mig weld it with soft steel($30), and now my plan is to sand and paint with a Galvanized primer (if I can find that)!

A question for the other who went the weld and paint route what kind of paint did you use?

Thanks in advance.

I picked up a can of krylon metallic spray paint at Walmart. Not the best solution, but back on the water in minimal time. Pic of repair work below, after I sprayed it.
