I've had my A22 for almost a month now. I fill the front sack, center ballast, 750 and stock in the left and keep the wedge up and get a decent wave with my wife driving... good enough to ride without the rope easily and I've only wakesurfed about 7 days. We had 7 people... about another 2000 pounds of human ballast on the left this weekend and had a wave above my waist (6'1") with a huge pocket and a big curl. I normally ride at 10.6 with just my wife in the boat but 10.8 was better with the extra people. I was able to do some tricks, ride up to the boat and get a beer, etc with the extra weight. I weigh 175 so maybe a little easier, but I did get 3 guests ropeless on their second day out for like 20 seconds and they were like 220. We ride a 5'6" hyperlite broadcast. We do have the 2012 so new swim platform, supposed to make a big difference.
love the axis!

Thanks for all the feedback! It seems like I'm definitely going too fast and haven't weighted it as hard as I need to. I'll let ya know how it goes next weekend...the weather was crap today, so I didn't get a chance to go.

I really want to learn to surf without the rope. I have all the ballast. I have only tried it with the stock ballast and wedge and a few people. Everyone on my boat can surf with the rope fine; however, we cant find the pocket either. Can you guys also specify what platform your using to with your weight set ups?

2012 boats have the newer platform. Chattwake and his buddy were the only two with 2011 or older boats with the new platform cuz they have a good hook-up.

I'm recovering from knee surgery so wakeboarding is out for now and surfing is my only form of fun these days. I have a 2011 A22 with the old platform. I run front PnP full, center tank full, and which ever side I want to ride, I fill the stock tank and a 750lb PnP about 75% full with the wedge down. The wedge makes the pocket WAY longer. I ride the Hazard 4'8" at 5"11 and 175lbs, and I can stay in a pocket that starts at the swim deck to about 12'-15' back with no troubles. I have found that if I fill the rear ballast on the other side at all, it'll ruin the wave and shrink the pocket dramatically.

Learn to find the pocket while holding the rope and letting it go a little slack. Play around like that for a while and then start to let go of the rope after you've figured out where your pocket is.

I have a video that is from last fall but the rear sack was only about 1/2 full with people all over the boat and the wake looks horrible. I'll try to upload it anyway...

Factory 2011 platform no modifications

Got pics of this wake? Chest high?

For scale - Im 5'11" 200lb. 11.6mph. The 2010 swim deck spray obscures how much further forward the pocket goes.

This was the day before with just hard tanks, no wedge, and 1100 in the rear. 10.6mph

Same setup (no bags on seats) but reg side and different angle:

Damn, that's a lot of wash even for the "old" platform. What's that ballast set-up?

2011 A22 with platform removed. Last year 750 rear sac, 400lb sac on seat, front PnP, 400lb sac on top of the bow surf side. Its a bigger this year with the extra lead in the rear.

If your pocket is small you might want to try more weight in the nose of the boat. you might also want to try removing some from the center.

I have never been a fan of that 4.10 custom. Single fin in the rear just does not give me enough 'bite' to really pump that board. I like a 2 outside fin board so I can really get on the gas when I need it.
