Is there a procedure for the LS3 anywhere? I'm about 2 hours over the 50 currently and need to get it done...

Its gonna be the same procedure Im sure however I think it holds more oil & requires synthetic. Also Im sure its a different filter. I can check my manual on the LS3 tonight unless someone wants to chime in here that has the LS3.

Always check your old oil filter to make sure the rubber o-ring came off. and always put a small amount of oil on the new rubber o-ring on the new filter. for all you first timers. i always put oil in my oil filters when possible. probably doesn't make a difference but it makes me feel better about dry starts

Yes forgot about that one. A double o-ring situation will be an oily mess at best & possibly a blown motor if its left spraying out the oil for too long!

I have my recently purchased vandell 2012 A20 335 indmar and i tried to complete the oil change last night and the dealer said there should be a plug in the boat i can pull to stick that hose through to drain the oil. Anyways, i couldnt find the drain that he was speaking about so i took the cap off that hose but no oil would drain out (i just had a pan in the side comparment waiting to catch whatever came out) i tried reaching for a valve or something but i couldnt feel one. When i called the dealership he said that in order to do it you need to have one of those suction pumps to syphon the oil out or you could be waiting for days haha. I lived 3 hrs from dealership and work so mcuh that i want to be able to do it myself. And the other boat service centers in my town are on a 6 week wait list even for a oil change. any help would be appreciated.

I have had people tell me they run their boat and the oil just runs out of the hose. That hasn't been my experience. I have a pump and I suck the oil out through the drain hose. It still takes about twenty minutes (after letting the boat run for about 15 min). I take the oil filter off and replace it with a napa gold 1069. I put oil back in the engine and run the boat again for a few minutes - check the oil and add oil as needed.

Penzoil Marine 15w40 or have others found suitable or better alternative?

Edit - I suck, did some searching and seems there are some good alternatives... going to give Mobil Delvac 1300 a shot.

It's odd that the LS3 specifically calls for 5W30 while all other engines under heavy use call for 15W40. I'm not sure using HDEO is less than minimum requirement for the LS3?

LS3 is a new engine, designed to run thinner oils as CAFE requirements have forced OEM's into thinner and thinner oils. Shoot, we were testing freakin' 0W20 when I was doing engine development for Ford in the mid 2000's. The older engines are the old SBC based engines dating to the mid 50's.
